Your First Visit

You do not need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy as physiotherapists are regulated health professionals. It is important to consult your insurance company to determine if a doctor’s referral is required for reimbursement of your treatment.

The number of sessions depends on your individual condition and symptoms. After the assessment the therapist will communicate with you the findings and together you can develop individual treatment goals. At this time the therapist will also review how many sessions are required per week. Each individual responds to treatment differently and as a result it is important that the therapist and client continually communicate to ensure that treatment goals are both consistent and efficiently achieved.

Treatment (that day and/or any other visit) varies from patient to patient and may consist a combination of a variety of the services we offer at Manotick PhysioWorks. This may include of manual therapy, exercise, education, acupuncture, dry needling, or other services relevant to your recovery and treatment plan.

Your therapist may provide patient handouts at the end of your visit, which may include exercises, information sheets, or management strategies, to help your understanding and recovery beyond the clinic.

Please wear clothing that makes it easy for us to access your injured body part. This could mean shorts if you have injured your lower body or back or a tank top or bra top if you have injured your shoulder, neck, or mid-back, for example. If you forget or are unsure of what to wear, we have appropriate clothing and draping here at the clinic.

If you have a physiotherapy or massage referral, please bring that along, as well as any investigation/imaging reports you have had completed related to your injury or condition. Please also bring any footwear that may contribute to your symptoms, and/or orthotics that you are currently using for support.

Your first visit will consist of a thorough examination of your injured body part and any other areas that may be influencing or related to your primary injury. Your therapist will then review the details of your condition and discuss a goal-oriented treatment plan with you.

Registered Physiotherapists are required by law to have a license issued by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario in order to practice in the province. A Registered Physiotherapist is a graduate of a recognized university program which includes both clinical and academic study. Ongoing professional development is a requirement of all Registered Physiotherapists.
